A Beautiful Day…

It’s absolutely gorgeous outside! And where am I? Inside…working for my day job. ***Sigh*** I wish I could be out in the brisk, cool air; sitting on a bench with my Starbucks coffee, knitting away…or taking Daisy for a walk. Something that would require me being outside. But no, here I sit in my home office working. I love my job, don’t get me wrong. But during this holiday season, I want to play outside and well, just play.

I love stormy days in the winter, but since we have had quite a few storms lately, I am relishing the sunny day today.  If I were not working today, I would like to go to my favorite yarn store, knit outside, be creative in some sort of way. Well, maybe I can do some of that this weekend…after we put Christmas away.

I always hate putting Christmas decorations away. It’s so sad to me. The ending of one year, the ending of the holiday season. It went by way too fast this year. I guess it seems more sad to me this year as it was my last Christmas in my twenties. In 2011 I shall be turning 30! I am looking forward to my thirties, but I am not ready for it. :o)

As for the New Year’s resolutions…I plan on going to the gym more, especially now that I have a workout buddy. I plan on blogging more…a shock I know! And I want to create more patterns and other new items for my store. I had received this great kit for making glass pendants. So I will be working with that this coming year. I will continue my yarn obsession, my obsession with crafting, birdies and owls.

Well, I should get back to work now. More to come!

What’s New at DGC

With fall and the holiday season rapidly approaching, DGC has been hard at work generating new items that are hip, trendy and unique. Lots of items have been added for not only babies, but for pets too. DGC launched a new line for our furry friends called Posh Pooches by DaisyDog Wear. As of right now there are embroidered jackets for our four-legged friends. As winter nears, there are rumors of dog sweaters joining the line up of doggy fashion. Be sure to check back 006 Here is Daisy modeling one of the Posh Pooches trench coat by DaisyDog Wear. Poor dog…it was a 100 degrees out that day. She did a good job of sitting still for the photographer.

Other recent additions to the DGC store are new items for babies. There are embroidered onesies and fleece blankets! These are so adorable.

008Here is a fleece blanket.017An embroidered onesie.

There are items for boys too. Sadly, there are not too many at the moment, however, we are hard at work on some new hats for boys. We do have a onesie for boys and a couple of baby fleece blankets. Be sure to check back in to see what’s new in the baby line.

DGC has also been working on new tea towels (all purpose towels), new coffee cozies and messenger bags!

040Embroidered messenger bag has adjustable strap and 2 side pockets. Flap secures with Velcro.

017 Embroidered coffee cozie with button clasp.

024 Here is an embroidered flour sack towel. Perfect for hand towels in your guest baths or as dish towels in the kitchen.

Well, that is the latest update on the DGC store. Check back for updates and new items.

Take Care!

DGC is now available in stores!

Let me introduce you to Bungalow. Bungalow is a fabulous vintage store located in the heart of old Fair Oaks. For those of you who are locals, this is a must see store! Kim is the owner and has done a fabulous job of making this store feel so inviting. Combining old with new, this store will make you want to redecorate your home and garden!

Bungalow is located at 10139 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Fair Oaks, California, 95826. When you pass through the doorway, you feel as though you have entered this enchanting, French Chic get-away. You no longer feel as though you are in California.

Well, this enchanting store has just added my antique necklaces to their collection! I feel so honored! This is the second store to add my necklaces to their line up. Bungalow is located here in California. The other store to pick up my necklaces is Elegant Clutter, located in Mill Creek, Washington. Elegant Clutter is similar to Bungalow in the sense that they carry French Chic items as well. Elegant Clutter has items for your home and garden as well. In fact, they are moving to a bigger location to make room for more fabulous items. If you live in the Seattle area, this is one store you will definitely want to check out.

Well, I apologize for the length in time from the last blog. Life has been crazy and it looks like it won't be slowing down. I will try to be better about blogging more often. Till then, Take Care!

Introducing Alanah Krueger of Yarn Plus Yarn

I am so excited to introduce Alanah Krueger. She agreed to give an interview on knitting. Alanah owns the Yarn Plus Yarn store on Etsy with her sister Emily. Together they create wonderful items like the one below:

yarnplusyarnThis is their Cowl/Neck warmer in moss green, one of the many fabulous items that these ladies create.

DGC got to sit down with Alanah today for a little one on one interview (via email).

DGC: How old were you when you first started knitting?

AK: I learned to knit when I was 15.

DGC: How did you get into knitting?

AK: My older sister Emily taught herself to knit and I loved all the projects she was working on. Plus, I was determine to make a purse with a cable running down the front. That was the main reason I started knitting. When I finally got the hang of it, I loved it so much that I branched out and started making other things too.

DGC: What are your all time favorite and least favorite projects?

AK: That's tough to answer. I don't really have a least favorite project. If I don't enjoy making it, I don't make it! . Lately, my favorite project has been making wrist warmers.

DGC: What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment as a knitter?

AK: Learning how to knit! I have to be honest, it was one of the hardest skills I have ever learned. I got so frustrated and I wanted to give up SO many times! But I am the most stubborn person ever, and I really wanted to make that purse. So after months of trying, one day I just got it.

DGC: What lead you to create an online store?

AK: I started a jewelry store a few years ago and it was a lot of fun, but since jewelry is the most popular thing on Etsy, I felt like I wasn't getting much exposure and it was too hard to try and put up a new item every day. So I went back to my first love, which was knitting and crocheting. My sister Emily and I were on a camping trip when we dreamed about opening a combined Etsy shop. After that I couldn't get the dream out of my head and a month later we were open for business!

DGC: What inspires you most in the realm of knitting?

AK: Other knitters really inspire me. Everyone has such different tastes and visions and it's so inspiring to see the different things that people can create.

DGC: What prompted you to start a blog?

AK: I have always loved writing and since the invention of Google Reader, I have been in love with all the different blogs out there. Plus, I really enjoy Etsy shops where I feel like I know not only the product, but the person behind it. As a huge plus, I have made friendships because of my blog and met people that I might not otherwise have come in contact with.

DGC: What would you say to a person who was just starting out with knitting?

AK: Don't give up! It may be super hard at first and difficult to get used to, but with time and persistence, you will get it! Determination and stubbornness is key. Once you get the hang of it, the possibilities are endless of what you can create with your hands and some needles.

I had a wonderful time getting to know Alanah. Along with her sister Emily, they have a real unique store with lots of fabulous accessories for a real great price. Yarn Plus Yarn is a great find. Be sure to check it out. I know you will love it!

Thank you Alanah for “meeting” with DGC today. We wish you and your sister the best of luck with your store.

New items for Spring and Summer

I have been wracking my brain on things that I could make for my store and events that would be good for the spring and summer months. I have been working furiously on some new jewelry. I am very excited about it. My new antique key necklaces were unveiled on March 20th with success.

Here is a small sample of the selection that I have currently at DGC.

I am also working on some new knitted items. Cotton is a fabulous yarn to work with. So soft, holds it's shape well and breathes. Take a look at some of the new cowls from my luxury line.

I am very proud of these cowls. It is one of my favorite patterns. I have begun creating my own designs, and while that process is kind of scary, it is also very exciting at the same time. I am currently in the process of making 3 more of the Devine cowls in purple, navy and fern green. The colors pictured above are evergreen, sea spray and espresso. I hope that these do well. It is my second cowl pattern that I have created.
I am working on a new line of home accessories. From knitted covers for plant pots to knitted floor pillows and more. Be sure to check back for those items.
Mark your calendars! If you live in the Sacramento, Roseville and whatever else area around here, DGC will be in 3 events this coming month!
  • April 10th: Brown Dog Cottage Studio Event from 4pm to 8pm at 211 Sequoia, Roseville, 95678. There will be refreshments, live music and many fabulous things to purchase. Visit BDC at http://www.browndogcottage.blogspot.com/
  • April 18th: The Roseville Spring Antique Market from 8am to 4pm at the Tattered House. Many great vendors, food and of course, shopping. For more information, please visit http://www.thetatteredhouse.com/faqs.htm
  • April 24th: The Spring Market from 10am to 5pm at the Paula V Salon. Urban, chic and fashionable vendors have been assembled for this event. For more information, please visit http://www.thespringmarket.net/.

Lots of good things on the horizon. I hope that DGC will do well. Cross your fingers and spread the word about these 3 fabulous events. You have 3 opportunities to come by and say hello.

New things...

I am currently working on some new and exciting projects. Don't worry, there will still be yarn items...but as we move into the warmer months, I am looking towards new ideas. No one wants to buy knitted mittens when its 105 out. So, some new things will be added to the shop.

I am returning to my roots, or my first love...aka hobby. I am making jewelry again. I forgot how much fun that can be too. I started making jewelry when I was like 13. I got the knitting bug at 20 and had never looked back to my jewelry stuff. So there it sat, waiting patiently for my return.

Here is a glimpse of things to come...

There are a lot more new and fabulous items, but I haven't taken pictures yet. I am working on some new necklaces and even a few new knitted items. The unveiling will take place at the Brown Dog Cottage Studio Event on March 20th, from 4-8pm at 211 Sequoia, Roseville, Ca, 95678. I will be putting new items up on my Etsy store shortly after the studio event. So if you can't make that, be sure to keep checking back with my store.

Thanks for stopping by!

I have been blogged about!!!

It's an exciting day! My embellished umbrellas have been blogged about! Check it out!

http://designedbymestationery.blogspot.com/2010/03/its-like-rain-on-your-wedding-day.html

My store has been generating a lot of hits lately...thank you Lord! I am in the process of being reviewed by another blogger, I have been invited to attend a craft fair in downtown Sacramento, and now I was blogged about. I am so excited to be getting so much traffic on my shop lately. Now if I can only sell something. It was tough there for a little while. I was really starting to feel depressed about my little shop not doing so well and then bam!

Now if I only didn't have to go to the DMV, then it would be a good news day. I guess it's a good time to get some knitting done.

Take care!

My Newest Project for February 2010

My Tank

So this is my newest project. I am very excited. I sure hope it turns out well. I have knitted a couple of sweaters in the past and it has turned out, well…interesting. We’ll go with that.

I love the colors, the feel and the cowl. Now all I have to do is find a shirt similar to the one in the picture. Any ideas? I will post updates to let you know how this is going. Cross your fingers and wish me luck!

Brown Dog Cottage Open House

This last Saturday, Brown Dog Cottage hosted one of many open house events. Despite the threat of rain, the event was fairly successful. We had wine, cheese, chickens and twinkle lights. Lots of goodies were up for purchase. Along with Brown Dog Cottage, Daisy Girl Creations was in attendance. While the event had a few visitors, we know that with the warmer weather and the spread of good words, we expect more people for February. Check out the pictures below.

Brown Dog Cottage will be hosting another open house event in February. The date is to-be-announced, but you can definitely find out the information here, on DGC and on DGC’s Facebook page. Hopefully DGC will be in attendance for the February event, but one never knows. I will keep you posted here and in other places. I will be working on some new items for the upcoming events and will be updating the store.

I am currently working on some new patterns. Yes, that is right, I got bitten by the pattern creating bug. I have one pattern up for purchase…that would be my awesome tote bag. I am working on a pattern for a cowl (a short, circular scarf without all the bulk of a regular scarf). I have one made and had written down the pattern, but it needs some tweaking.

Be sure to check back later for updates.

My New Pattern

Ok, so I attempted to create my own crochet pattern. That part turned out fairly well. The Etsy part even turned out...the whole listing it and turning it into a PDF for purchase. The part in question is on Ravelry. I tried to create a pattern on there for purchase...and well...not so good. I emailed them for help as my pattern looks pathetic on there and I need to do lots more editing. Oh how sad.

Any way, the completed pattern with pictures is for sale for $5 at DGC. I think it turned out fairly well. I hope people purchase it and I hope that there aren't too many mistakes. I gave it another read through and did a little more editing. So, we shall see.
The above picture is a completed Tote bag for sale on Etsy. Wish me luck.

New Items and New Events

I have a bunch of new items listed on Etsy. I am very excited about my new line and hope it does well. I made a lot of new pendants and several pair of earrings. This items I have doodled on and shrank it down and made fabulously fun and unique jewelry. I even have new tote bags up. I hope that those do well too.

Daisy Girl Creations will be at Clinton’s open house event on January 23rd, from 4pm to when ever we feel like ending it. The address for the open house is: 211 Sequoia, Roseville, Ca 95678.  I hope that you all can come by and say hello. There will be lots of unique items for purchase, fellowship, and possibly good eats.

I will be working on some more fabulous knitted, crocheted and other hand made goodies for my store. Keep checking back for new items.

New Year, New Projects

It's 2010. Do you say "Twenty Ten" or "Two Thousand Ten" or what??? Just don't say "Oh Ten." That would sound lame. So it's a new year. That means new ideas, right? I hope so. My goal for 2010 is to get new items made. One of the "major" projects I am currently working on is the designing of my very first pattern.

I have a friend at church that wanted a smaller tote bag for their trip. She is rather petite in stature so the usual bags out there look ginormous on her. So I got to work on thinking up how I am to do this. Then it hit me. I finished up the bag and showed it off to some friends and family before turning the bag over to her. They loved. I immediately got 2 orders for it. Wow! That's fast! So I whipped those out and got to thinking...I wonder if people would be interested in buying a pattern.

I have never written a pattern before. Is there some big secret on how to do this? I have used patterns hundreds of times. Looks easy enough. Yeah, it's not. I didn't realize that I had been constantly revising and improving the old pattern. Oh snap! One night, I sit down and bang it out on my keyboard. Then there were the read throughs. You really should never edit your own stuff. Your brain fills in whats missing. Not good.

I have the pattern 99% complete. There are a few test crocheters out there, testing my pattern. Then all I need to do is add some pictures of the finished product. I always hated it when you get a pattern and there are no pictures. There is no way to compare your work to theirs, or for that matter attempt to figure out a tricky part if they had left out a key piece of the pattern. I won't do that to you!

I hope to get the new pattern up on Etsy and Ravelry. I should probably put it up here too. I hope that once it is completed, people will want to buy it. Maybe I should figure out a knitted pattern for it for the people who don't crochet. Hmmmmm...

A New Year, A New Look...

Not for me...for my blog. I still have blog envy. I won't deny it. I click through the other blogs here on blogspot and see how fabulous they all look. Blog envy. Then I found this website...off of some one's blog for free blog backgrounds. And hey, they aren't bad. So, I figured 2010 should have a new look. Granted, it will probably change again, but for now, here is the new and improved Daisy Girl's page.

Where did I find this awesome website you ask? Well, here is the link. I know, you appreciated that. I hope that this helps you or someone you know with blog envy. On this site, you can create your own look. It's pretty cool and really easy to use. I like easy to use, especially at 1 am!

With that in mind, and me not realizing it was that late...it's off to bed for me. I shall read until sleep take me. Hopefully that will be sooner than last night. *Sighs*
